시발점(始發點)은 나쁜 말이 아니라 「처음 출발하는 곳」이다. 비로소 시(始), 필 발(發), 점 점(點) — 버스 시발점은 버스가 처음 떠나는 자리다. 소리가 욕처럼 들려 아이들이 놀라는 오해는 신문이 다룬 사례다. 같은 비로소 시로 시작(始作)·시초·개시가 있고, 같은 필 발로 출발(出發)·발견(發見)·발명(發明)이 있다. 발견은 있던 것을 찾는 일, 발명은 없던 것을 밝혀내는 일로 짝이 된다. 반대쪽 끝은 종점(終點)이라 시발점에서 타고 종점에서 내린다. 점심의 점까지 이어 붙인 짜임은 이 편이 카드로 보여 주는 내용이며, 표준국어대사전 원어 칸과의 대조는 아직 남아 있다.
