1 흑심 — 검은 마음黑心 — the black mind
黑心: 'a mind full of sly and dishonest greed.' You smile outside and think otherwise inside. We say you 'hold' a 흑심 — hidden, and so, dark.

2 양심 — 어질 량良心 — the good mind
良心 — the good mind: 'the mind that tells right from wrong.' And 가책 (呵責) means 'to scold and reproach'. So a guilty conscience is your own mind telling you off.

3 본심 — 원래 마음本心 — the mind underneath
本心 — the mind you have had all along. You 'hold' a 흑심, but a 本心 'comes out'. Hiding and revealing both end in 心.

私心 — a private mind, one's own greed; 'without 사심' means without self-interest. But 死心, same sound, means a mind resolved unto death. One to discard, one to stake your life on.
